Congratulations to this group of exceptional SCHS students who earned winning spots in Swain Soil & Water Conservation District’s 2025 “Wetlands are Wonderful” Contest!
These students wowed judges in the high school division with essays, slideshows, and an amazing speech demonstrating a clear wetland conservation message. Judges for the contest are all natural resource professionals from various conservation agencies in the area. The students were recognized during a reception following the speech contest in Mr. Terry Bennett’s classroom on February 13th, where they received certificates and monetary prizes from Swain SWCD. Their winning entries will now be submitted to the regional Area 1 Soil & Water Conservation contests. They will compete with students from all over WNC and could have a chance to advance to the state! Ms. Parker will deliver her speech in person again for the regional competition in Haywood County on March 24th. Well done and best of luck to our winners!
