📝 Testing season is here, Swain County students! You’ve done the work—now just remember to rest, fuel up, and do your best. ⚡️

An informational and encouraging infographic from Swain County Public Schools titled "Students! You Got This!" set against a textured, dark maroon background. The top right features a white line drawing of a glowing lightbulb. The main text announces that testing season is here and outlines "a few small habits that can make a huge difference in performance and peace of mind." Four light grey, arrow-shaped callout boxes detail specific tips: Power Down: Recommends 8+ hours of sleep and turning off screens 30 minutes before bed. Fuel the Finish: Advises skipping sugary snacks for a breakfast with protein and complex carbs (eggs, oatmeal, yogurt). Just Breathe: Suggests "Box Breathing" (inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4, exhale for 4) for overwhelm. Prep the Night Before: Recommends laying out an outfit and packing a bag ahead of time to minimize morning jitters. Text on the right side notes that East, West, and Middle School testing begins Wednesday, May 20th, and includes a note for parents on how simple encouragement lowers test anxiety. The bottom features the text "You’ve done the work, now just do your best!" alongside the Swain County Public Schools circular logo, which features a mountain range silhouette and a block letter "S".

At the end of the day on May 13, a Swain West Elementary School teacher responded to a report of a possible gun in a student's bookbag. The teacher immediately confiscated the bookbag, notified school officials, and determined that the item was a toy gun. We want to reassure our community that at no point were students or staff in any danger.

School officials followed all established safety protocols to ensure our learning environment remained secure and orderly. This incident marks the second time in the past week that a potential threat was identified and resolved quickly, preventing the need for a campus-wide lockdown.

We need your partnership to keep our campuses safe. Please take a moment this evening to speak with your children about appropriate behavior and school rules.

Important Reminder: No weapons of any kind—including toys, look-alikes, or replica items—are permitted on school grounds at any time. Bringing these items to school creates unnecessary alarm and disrupts the educational environment. We remain fully committed to maintaining a safe, focused environment for every student and staff member. Thank you for your continued support and vigilance.
